“A bedrock of traditional Celtic Folk, on which the further-flung elements safely perch… magnificently drenched in Empyrean light” **** David Honigmann, Financial Times

“Worth the wait” Oban Times

It’s been 17 years since the release of Orchestra Macaroon’s critically acclaimed first album. This time round the virtual orchestra has 15 members and during 2020 they recorded their own parts in 10 different places, from Hong Kong to Sligo. The album was then mixed and mastered in Argyll, Scotland.

Expect another helping of joyous acoustic sound, strong on groove, rich in texture, and overlaid with catchy melodies. A freewheeling kaleidoscope of world, folk, roots and jazz music to warm the heart and stir the feet!

Breakfast in Balquhidder | Orchestra Macaroon

Available on Bandcamp >>> Buy now

Warning: This product may contain traces of bagpipes

”Shot through with joyful melody” … “Warm winter night music” … “A wake-up call to the dead” … “Some of the best Roots music I’ve heard in ages”

These are just a few of the things which critics said about Breakfast in Balquhidder, the first Orchestra Macaroon album, still available to buy on download and also on CD (thanks to a surprise discovery of a boxful in an attic – we kid you not!).

Released in 2004, the album was recorded, mixed and mastered on Easdale Island, Argyll.

In 2024, twenty years later, Songlines magazine selected Breakfast In Balquhidder as number 8 in their essential bagpipe albums.

The Roke | The Clan

Traditional tunes with a twist

First released in 1989 on vinyl and cassette, The Roke is re-released and ready for your delectation on digital download from Bandcamp!

The album was the first large collaborative recording made by Colin Blakey – with a ‘clan’ of 18 fellow musicians including family members. The album includes the only known available recording of The Pictish National Anthem. The other pieces are traditional Scottish, English, Spanish and Breton, augmented by Colin’s own compositions and distinctive arrangements. The instrumentation includes strings, woodwind, piano, bass, vocals, harmonica, unusual percussion and – naturally – more than one kind of bagpipe.
